The legendary saintess was born to the family of a pagan priest in Asia Minor in the 3rd century. Influenced by her nanny, she converted to Christianity. She refused the affection of the local ruler and, as a result, she was cruelly tortured and then beheaded. It is believed that while in jail, she defeated Satan in the shape of a dragon. She is a patron of farmers, nannies, women giving birth, wives and midwives during difficult childbirth and a protector against barrenness, facial diseases and wounds. She also helps to make all wishes come true. Her attributes are a dragon, cross, torch, comb and sickle.
